If you’re in the military and thinking about starting a business in 2025, you might feel overwhelmed or unsure where to begin. Don’t worry—you’re not alone. Starting a business can seem like a huge challenge, but it doesn’t have to be. In this article, I’ll break down the easiest way to get started and share some tips to help you succeed.

THE BIGGEST PROBLEM: NOT KNOWING WHERE TO START

The number one thing that stops most people from starting a business is not knowing where to begin. If that’s you, that’s okay! But after reading this, you won’t have that excuse anymore.

First, think about your surroundings. What problems do people around you have? What needs can you solve? You don’t need to create the next Apple or Google. Small businesses can be incredibly successful. For example, I know a Marine who sets up carnival games at events and makes $ $20, 000 t o $$ 30,000 a month. He saw a need and filled it.

THE IDEA VS EXECUTION

Having a great idea is important, but execution is everything. Many people come up with ideas but never act on them. The key is to take that first step and stay committed.

HOW TO GET STARTED: PUT SOME SKIN IN THE GAME

To get started, you need to have something at stake. This could be your pride, your money, or both. When you have something to lose, it pushes you to work harder.

Bet Your Pride: Share your goals publicly. For example, last year I posted on Instagram that I would run one mile every day for a year. I didn’t want to let my followers down, so I stuck to it.
Bet Your Money: Invest in your business. This could mean buying a course, hiring a coach, or starting an LLC. When you spend money, you’re more likely to take it seriously.

I highly recommend using a company to form your LLC because they’ll do everything for you so you don’t have to worry about doing research on all the rules, dealing with the paperwork, and talking to the state.

Starting an LLC is a great first step. It’s affordable (around $39 plus state fees) and makes your business look professional. I used Northwest Registered Agent to start my LLC, and I highly recommend them.

TIME ISN'T THE PROBLEM — COMMITMENT IS

If you’re busy with work, family, or other responsibilities, you might think you don’t have time to start a business. But the real issue isn’t time—it’s commitment. If you’re truly passionate about your business, you’ll find a way to make time.

Ask yourself: Would you rather spend the next 5–10 years building a business that gives you freedom for the rest of your life? Or would you rather look back and wonder, “What if I had started something?”

FIND YOUR WHY

Your “why” is your motivation. Maybe you want to provide for your family, retire early, or have more freedom. Whatever it is, use that passion to push you forward.
